Secure Closet

Secure Closet

This closet gives patients and families peace of mind from knowing that they can securely store their valuables. This means families can bring their computers, cameras, or other belongings that will make healing more comfortable for all.

Pullout Bed

Pull Out Bed

The pullout bed provides lounging and seating space when folded up, but more importantly, allows parents to remain by their child's side 24/7. Because children heal faster with family support, Children's welcomes and encourages parents to remain with their child during his or her time of care and healing.

Comfortable Chair

Comfortable Chair

Every patient's room features either a glider, rocker, or sleeper chair that provides added comfort for patients and families. These chairs give families a seat close to their child, give friends a great seat from which to enjoy a movie, and even an extra spot for a family member to sleep. Each chair adjusts easily to provide maximum comfort.

Privacy Curtain

Privacy Curtain

The privacy curtain provides separation for patients, families, and caregivers because sometimes a little privacy can provide a lot of comfort. When drawn, the curtain conceals the pullout bed and can even help muffle any noise in the room.

Flatscreen TV

Flatscreen TV

The wall-mounted 40” LCD television serves as the central hub of information, entertainment, communication, and even escape for families and patients. On this screen, patients and families can watch a video on-demand or play their favorite video games. They can keep up with their favorite TV shows, watch DVDs, learn about special events, hospital visitors, and services that are available during their stay. Special interactive menus even provide patients and families with convenient medical education and eventually will provide the ability to order the patient's meals from Nutrition Services.

Connectivity

Connectivity

Available from either the Geek Squad Precinct (Minneapolis) or the family resource center (St. Paul), laptop computers allow patients and families to safely browse the web in their room. This allows patients to remain connected to other family members and friends, and allow parents to remain engaged with employers, and tend to other daily responsibilities online. Geek Squad agents are available (Minneapolis) to help patients and families solve their technology problems should any arise during their stay.

Refrigerator

Refrigerator

While Children's offers a healthy variety of food in its cafeteria, many families use their personal refrigerator to accommodate their preferred diets. Enjoying home-cooked food is not only a source of great comfort, but also a necessity for many of the cultures in the communities that Children's serves.

Private Bathroom

Private Bathroom

Private bathrooms in each patient room provide privacy, convenience and safety to patients and their families. By having these facilities in each room, patients benefit from not having to venture into sometimes-busy hallways. Likewise, parents do not need to leave their child's room and can remain close by at all times, providing comfort to their child.

State-of-the-Art Patient Bed

State-of-the-Art Patient Bed

Every bed at Children's, including isolettes for infants, cribs for toddlers, or full-size beds for older children, provides built-in state-of-the-art features ensuring safety and comfort for the patient. Older patients can conveniently adjust the settings of their bed, call caregivers remotely, and control their television, all from the comfort of their bed.

Medical Booms and Columns

Medical Booms and Columns

These specially designed medical booms and columns provide some of the equipment and special gases that are often required for effective care. The boom is movable, which allows for maximum flexibility in positioning the bed and equipment. This greatly reduces the need for additional equipment, stands, and poles near the bedside of the patient and eliminates clutter that can cause patient stress.

Entertainment

Entertainment

During a difficult period of care and healing, giving each patient access to an Xbox 360 provides him or her the chance to relax. Patients can play their favorite video game with friends and family, watch their favorite DVD, or even view photos or homemade DVDs using the Xbox 360. Plus, most rooms are equipped with boom boxes or clock radios with mp3 player docks. Patients can also check out iPods or mp3 players from the hospital.
